Three New Nonstop Flights Taking off from Indy Airport in May

Nonstops to Hilton Head Island and Portland, Maine first-ever for IND

INDIANAPOLIS (March 25, 2021) – Three new nonstop flights -- to the South Carolina coastal cities of Hilton Head Island (HHH) and Charleston (CHS), and also Portland, Maine (PWM) -- will take off out of Indianapolis International Airport (IND) beginning May 2021, just in time for a summer getaway.

United Airlines will offer nonstop service to Hilton Head Island three days per week, and service to Charleston and Portland four times per week, respectively. Charleston and Portland flights will begin on May 27 and Hilton Head will launch on May 28.

“This is the first time IND has had nonstop flights to Hilton Head Island and Portland, Maine,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “Our airline partners are watching traveler trends and interests, and offering destinations that fit that demand. Each of the new flights announced in the past six months have created more getaway opportunities for the leisure traveler.”

The East Coast is a top attraction for summer travelers, especially to the southern coastal region, where warm Atlantic waters and expansive sandy beaches offer a refreshing change of climate for winter-stricken Midwest travelers. Portland, Maine offers milder summer temperatures, lighthouses dotting the shoreline, historic ships and deep-sea fishing.

These new routes from United will operate on the new CRJ-550, the world’s first and only 50-seat regional aircraft that offers first-class seats and amenities – with room for carry-on bags in the overhead compartments and carry-on cabinets.

"Throughout the pandemic, United has been strategic and thoughtful in adding flights to destinations that our customers want to visit," said Ankit Gupta vice president of domestic network planning and scheduling at United Airlines. "With many customers now beginning to plan summer vacations in places where they can enjoy time outside, we look forward to offering new service to these destinations. United will have the most flights to Portland, Maine of any carrier."

United Airlines currently offers nonstop flights from Indy to Denver, Newark, Washington-Dulles, Houston-Intercontinental, Chicago-O’Hare and Ft. Myers.
