Spirit Airlines Announces First-Ever Nonstop Flight Out of Indy to Pensacola

Four flights weekly taking off in June 2021

INDIANAPOLIS (March 11, 2021) – Starting this summer, Hoosiers can catch a nonstop flight on Spirit Airlines out of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to the city of Pensacola, Florida – where sugary white beaches await, along with a historic Spanish quarter and the famed Gulf Shores area less than an hour’s drive away.

Spirit will offer service to Pensacola four times weekly, with flights departing on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning on June 11.

“This is the first nonstop flight out of Indianapolis to Pensacola, and it was our largest unserved Florida destination,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “Spirit is listening to customers and responding with nonstop destination options that fit traveler demand. That creates new opportunities for Indy travelers.”

Florida remains a top leisure destination for Hoosiers. As leisure demand continues to rebound, ultra-low-cost carriers, like Spirit, are taking the opportunity to expand into new markets to capture additional leisure traffic.

“We are excited to announce our brand new nonstop flight, connecting Indianapolis with Pensacola,” Spirit Airlines Vice President of Network Planning John Kirby said. “With the addition of Pensacola to our network, our Guests in Indy will now have easy and affordable access to their next vacation in the emerald-green waters and sugar-white sands of Florida’s Panhandle. Indianapolis now has MoreGo!”

Currently, Spirit offers nonstop flights out of Indianapolis to the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa – in addition to Las Vegas.

Safe, healthy travels
Spirit’s commitment to Safe Travels includes a multi-layered safety approach that requires all Guests and Team Members to wear face coverings. Each passenger agrees to that policy as part of a health and safety acknowledgment prior to boarding the aircraft. Every plane in Spirit’s Fit Fleet® uses state-of-the-art, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that capture 99.97% of particles and filter the air for contaminants every 3 minutes.

Between each flight, enhanced cleaning procedures focus on high-touch areas such as tray tables and armrests. Spirit also uses two EPA-registered fogging treatments. The first applies a safe, high-grade disinfectant that's effective against coronaviruses. The second uses an antimicrobial product that forms an invisible barrier on all surfaces that kills bacteria and viruses on contact for 30 days. Please visit Spirit's COVID-19 Information Center for more information on safety enhancements.

The Indianapolis International Airport is also working diligently to ensure a safe and healthy travel experience for Hoosiers. Late last year the Indy airport was recognized with the Airports Council International’s Global Airport Health Accreditation for its efforts during the pandemic.

Since March 2020, the Indianapolis Airport Authority has implemented an abundance of measures throughout the terminal and airport campus to help protect the traveling public and airport employees, including increased cleanliness measures, social distancing signage and touchless transactions whenever possible.
