Indy Airport Celebrates Allegiant Inaugural Flight to Austin, Texas

Austin one of top five unserved destinations for Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (May 19, 2017) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) launched another nonstop inaugural flight today to an in-demand destination.

Last week the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) celebrated groundbreaking news of an inaugural nonstop, daily flight into Seattle. Today it celebrated Allegiant Airlines’ inaugural nonstop flight to Austin, Texas – and next week the airline will launch its inaugural nonstop, seasonal flight out of Indy to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, Florida on May 26.

Allegiant Airlines announced both nonstop flights in January, with flights operating for both destinations twice weekly.

“Our airline partners are listening and investing in what passengers tell us they want,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “Together, we’re delivering more access and connections for leisure and business destinations – and this month is a testament to the success of that collaborative work.”

Rodriguez said Austin is one of the top five unserved destinations for Indianapolis. Central Texas offers world-class music and food, and caters to the technology sector – which is a draw for not only leisure travelers but businesses looking for a conference destination or needing a direct connection to Indy’s growing tech industry.

The Austin flight is scheduled twice weekly at 10:50 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays.

Next week Allegiant will launch its nonstop, seasonal flight to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, which is scheduled for 9:35 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. The flight will run from May 26 through Aug. 14, 2017.

“We’re excited to begin these convenient, nonstop flights to Austin and Florida’s Emerald Coast,” said Lukas Johnson, Allegiant senior vice president of commercial. “We know Indianapolis-area travelers will take advantage of our friendly, affordable service to enjoy a summer getaway to these two vacation hot spots.”

The Indianapolis airport averages 143 daily flights, seasonally and year-round, to 46 nonstop destinations.
