Travel + Leisure Readers Land Indy Airport on Prestigious List

‘This should be the blueprint for all airports.’

INDIANAPOLIS (July 12, 2019) – Travel + Leisure Magazine readers have spoken – and they’ve landed the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) high on the list of favorite domestic airports in the world as part of the magazine’s 2019 World’s Best Awards.

Travelers commended the Indy airport for its bright, airy terminal that lets in plenty of light, its many and varied food and beverage choices, and the efficiency of the Indy airport’s security checkpoints. Survey respondents remarked: “This should be the blueprint for all airports!” “Great local restaurants to eat and grab coffee or beer,” and “Always clean. Security line is always friendly and quick.”

In the 2019 survey, travelers were asked to rate airports based on access, check-in/security, restaurants/bars, shopping and design. Their votes revealed that the world’s top favorite domestic airports are not only easy to navigate, but they are a joy to linger in too.

“This kind of traveler feedback is a big compliment to our employees and business partners who make a 10-year-old terminal look new and clean every day, and push the status quo to provide services and amenities that are attractive to a broad range of tastes and interests,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “It’s really the people that work here, delivering Hoosier Hospitality and striving to provide an outstanding customer experience, that make the Indy airport a world-class operation.”

The Indy airport took the number-two spot (78.55) among the World’s Best domestic airports, scoring only two points behind Portland International Airport (80.84). This is the fourth year in a row that travelers have voted the Indy airport among the best of the top 10 best domestic airports in the world.
