INDIANAPOLIS (April 21, 2021) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) celebrated the grand opening today of Tinker Coffee’s first-ever café storefront, located in Concourse B at the best midsized airport in North America.

The airport’s Tinker Coffee location is the first of two café storefronts the local specialty coffee roaster will open in Indianapolis, and it is the latest among a list of new shops and restaurants to open at the Indy airport in the past 12 months.

Today travelers were treated to samples and latte art demonstrations at the nearly 900-square-foot local coffee café. Debuting on the menu was one of Tinker’s signature beverages, the 5 Spice Latte, a staple at pop-ups and Tinker Gemini catering events, and now available at the airport location. Tinker’s new café space features a sleek design and state-of-the-art coffee brewing equipment, alongside artistic design elements produced by local creative studio Flatland Kitchen. To complement their carefully sourced coffees, the Tinker café also features breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

“This is another great step forward in our concession refresh initiative, which has been in the works for the past few years to showcase local food, beverages and products to our travelers,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “A winning combination of local favorites and nationally recognized brands are helping to elevate the experience at the Indy airport.”

In the past six months, local beverage favorites like Sun King Brewery and Tinker Coffee, and other retail options, have opened new locations at the Indianapolis airport as part of the larger concessions refresh initiative.

Rodriguez said these openings come in tandem with several new nonstop flight announcements, a new airline set to launch in May, recent increases in passenger traffic during spring break and the NCAA March Madness games, and new CDC guidance for vaccinated travelers.

Tinker Coffee also plans to open another café location at the Amp, 16 Tech’s artisan marketplace, in spring 2021.

"We couldn't be happier to realize our dream of opening a coffee shop at our favorite airport in the country this year,” said Tinker Coffee co-founder Steve Hall. “With as many curveballs as the COVID-19 pandemic threw at businesses large and small, having the chance to finally share our coffee and hospitality with travelers from all over the world makes it all worthwhile. It's a real honor to be a part of the concessions refresh at IND, and we look forward to continuing to expand our presence in the airport in the coming months."

Historically Tinker Coffee has only had coffee available at its downtown roaster facility and online, as well as through select cafés, restaurants, and businesses. Tinker Coffee also has a subscription service, for direct coffee delivery.

Tinker Coffee has implemented pandemic health precautions at its airport location in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
