parkIND Hourly Garage Parking offers convenient, reserved area for picking up, dropping off, and meeting passengers
Dedicated area ensures short-term parkers always have shortest walk to the terminal
Just in time for Labor Day and holiday travelers, a new parking area in the Terminal Garage at the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is ensuring the most convenient spaces are available for short-term parkers near the walkway to the terminal.
Hourly Parking is a gated area providing 285 spaces directly adjacent to the pedestrian skybridge connecting the garage to the airport terminal. Customers can use the ticket they receive when initially entering the garage to easily enter and exit the designated area. For customers parking for four and a half hours or less, there is no difference from standard garage rates.
The Indianapolis Airport Authority’s (IAA) decision to create the Hourly Parking area to provide quick turnaround parking for customers from across Indiana coming to the airport was based on feedback from customers.
“Providing convenient, customer-focused parking options for all IND visitors is the primary focus of parkIND,” said Robert Duncan, executive director of the IAA. “Hourly Parking is a great amenity for people to get access to available, convenient parking to improve their airport experience.”
The Hourly Parking area launched as part of IAA’s June 3, 2013, announcement of parkIND, a set of new parking programs and improvements. Hourly Parking is $2 per half hour with a $48-per-day cap in place to ensure high turnover and prevent use by departing passengers, generating continuously available space in a convenient location on the third floor of the Terminal Garage.
“Hourly Parking is a new option, and when people find out how it works, they love it,” added Duncan. “Many are surprised at the available space at a price that is, for parking four and a half hours or less, equal to standard garage parking farther from the terminal entrance.”
Along with Hourly Parking, parkIND offers Premium Parking with valet and self-park options on the third floor of the Terminal Garage, with daily parking available throughout all four levels. Plans are also underway for promotional parking opportunities on the fifth floor of the garage.
Hourly Parking is among many new customer features at IND, including the new parkIND Plus parking rewards programs. With free online signup at www.parkINDPlus.com, customers are issued a card they can use to quickly enter and exit on-airport parking areas, earning points toward free parking and access to a new express Diamond lane at TSA
Security.
parkIND improvements this summer have included signage updates throughout the Terminal Garage, Economy Lot, and Ground Transportation Center (GTC), as well as a new pay-on-foot option in the GTC. New digital monitors at the airport’s shuttle bus shelters that display real-time location information for parking shuttles will soon be added to the IAA’s continuing services, which include around-the-clock assistance to help customers locate lost vehicles and escort solo travelers to their cars safely, free jump starts, and tire
inflation.
IAA’s new reconfigured shuttle route also reduces total annual miles traveled by IAA shuttles by 35%, or approximately 150,000 miles. As a result, IAA shuttles will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 671,400 lbs. and achieve fuel savings near $100,000.
