Indy Airport Announces New Nonstop Flight to Austin
American Airlines adds to recent flurry of new nonstop flights, further spurs optimism
INDIANAPOLIS (June 10, 2021) – Just as the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) kicks off the summer travel season launching 13 new nonstop flights, it now announces another nonstop – with American Airlines adding service from Indy to Austin (AUS) in September.
The American flight will depart daily from Indianapolis beginning September 8 and will increase to twice daily on Oct. 2, 2021, offering Hoosiers more opportunities in their travels to Central Texas.
“This is a triple win for Hoosier travelers,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “We’re getting another new nonstop, and to the great city of Austin, Texas where food and music culture thrive, and American will leverage Indy headquartered Republic Airways’ operations and E-175 aircraft.”
In addition to offering world-class food and music, Austin maintains the number-three spot in terms of high-tech job growth, according to CBRE Research. This makes American’s new route from Central Texas attractive to those needing a direct connection to Indy’s growing tech industry.
Today’s news comes on the heels of a flurry of inaugural nonstop flights taking off out of the Indy airport to the East Coast and Gulf Coast regions, and the launch of a new airline in late May. Already this year, the Indy airport has announced 16 new nonstop flights coming to Indianapolis between May and September, compared to only five new flight announcements made overall in 2020.
Among the list of new nonstops, American launched its Boston and Orlando flights out of Indy on June 3 and June 5, respectively. American had originally announced its Boston flight in January 2020 but put it on hold as the pandemic emerged. American also resumed its nonstop flight to Los Angeles out of Indy on May 6.
“We’re eager to add new service from Indianapolis to Austin, giving local customers another choice for their travel plans,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines vice president of network planning. “We look forward to welcoming more Indy customers back to travel with American to experience all that Austin has to offer, as well as further connecting them to our global network.”
Starting June 14, American Airlines’ Austin flights will be available to book on aa.com.
American Airlines going the distance for safe, healthy travel
American Airlines is the first airline to achieve GBAC STAR™ Accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, which ensures the airline is operating with the proper procedures to respond to biological threats like COVID-19. Through its Clean Commitment, passengers traveling on American airlines can experience COVID-19 precautions similar to hospital standards, including using HEPA filters on all mainline and most regional aircraft that refresh the cabin air every 2 to 4 minutes, and deep cleaning aircraft with SurfaceWise®2, a breakthrough coating that provides enhanced protection by sustained killing of 99.9% of viruses, including coronaviruses, on surfaces. American also requires face coverings, offers a range of touchless services and has limited its food and beverage service. In addition, American Airlines offers more quarantine-free travel and pre-flight COVID-19 testing options.
Indy airport’s COVID-19 precautions earn it an Airport Health Accreditation
