Garage parking rates and minimum taxi fares to increase January 1

INDIANAPOLIS—Those who park in the airport garage or use taxis for ground transportation from the airport will pay slightly more in 2008.

At its December 21 meeting, the Indianapolis Airport Authority board approved rate increases for both services. The changes take effect January 1.

The first 30 minutes of garage parking remains free. Drivers of vehicles parked in the garage for longer than 30 minutes, however, will pay $.50 more per half hour. The new rates are:

  • Each one-half hour after first 30 minutes: $2 (up from $1.50)
  • Maximum each 24 hours: $22 (up from $20)
  • Lost ticket charge: $22 (up from $20)

“This is the first increase in parking garage rates since 1999,” said Robert Duncan, airport director.

Duncan notes there are no rate changes for the airport’s long-term surface lots, including the Tiger Express, Corporate Connection, Premier Parking, and Economy Parking lots.

The minimum taxi fare for cab rides originating at the airport will be $15, up from $7. Made at the request of local taxi drivers largely due to increased fuel costs, the new rate is the first increase in 18 years, according to Ron Deer, manager of the airport’s Ground Transportation Center.
