500 American Flags to Fly at Indy Regional Airport

Field of Honor will be open July 1 – 5 to honor first responders, essential workers

INDIANAPOLIS (June 28, 2022) – More than 500 American flags will be on display at the Indianapolis Regional Airport from July 1 – 5 to honor first responders, veterans, military personnel and essential workers. The flags will make up the Field of Honor and will recognize the work of these crucial groups to help keep communities safe and free.

“These flags present a very moving display of red, white and blue, reminding us of those who give of themselves every day, in some of the most harrowing situations, to ensure the safety and stability of our communities,” said Keith Berlen, Indianapolis Airport Authority senior director of operations and public safety.

The Field of Honor is an annual display presented by the Exchange Clubs of Hancock County and the City of Lawrence.

The 500-flag display will be open 24 hours each day from July 1 – 5 for the public to walk among, view the flags and reflect on the service of first responders, veterans, military personnel and essential workers. Admission is free.

“This is an opportunity to show honor and to educate our children about the service police, fire, military, veterans and frontline workers contribute to our society,” said Chairman Jeffry Young. “We hope families and community members will come walk the Field of Honor and reflect on what it stands for.”
