The Glory of Sports in Indianapolis and A Work of HeArt
In Concourse A, The Glory of Sports recognizes Indianapolis' status as a professional and amateur sports capital. The mural's four segments, each shaped like a propeller blade, form a large design that from every vantage point reveals clever placement of athletes in action. However, auto racing is depicted literally–and cleverly. Those who examine the design will see a race car in the center. A Work of HeArt is located in Concourse B. Torluemke drew his inspiration from two primary sources; the Indiana state song ("On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away") and aviator Antoine de Sain Exupéry's 1943 literary classic, The Little Prince, whose title character gained wisdom, maturity and insight from his interplanetary travels.
