Ride Through Indy

Playing on the big screen above the main escalators/stairs to Baggage Claim, is a new video animation project by Indianapolis-based artist Akili Sosa that uses an animation technique called “rotoscoping” to highlight sights along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The animation starts out colorless, adds a spark of yellow at the “Ann Dancing” sculpture, and builds to full color as the vibrancy of the city is finally understood. Sosa, an avid cyclist, captured the footage while riding their bike and employed local colorists to create the visual effects. The result is a joyful tribute to the city we share, and a quirky take on life at street level.

About the Artist: Akili Sosa (they/them) is the owner and chief artist at Sosa Animation Studios. They received their BA in sculpture from the University of Houston in 2013, and in addition to pursuing commercial and personal animation projects, they currently volunteer with the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and are a musician and software developer.
