Indy Airport to Host 2nd Annual IND-y Racing Icons Panel Discussion

Fisher, St. James, Goodyear and Unser to headline panel

INDIANAPOLIS (May 21, 2018) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is inviting the public to attend its second-annual IND-y Icons Panel discussion on May 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Civic Plaza.

This event is free to the public, and will feature past and present IndyCar drivers Sarah Fisher, Lyn St. James, Scott Goodyear and Bobby Unser.

During this live, in-person event, drivers will give passengers and airport visitors the inside lane on what it’s like to race in the Indy 500, what they foresee for the upcoming race, and some insights into their own experience and legacies in IndyCar racing.

“I’m back for round two this year,” said Unser, who participated in last year’s inaugural icons panel with his famed family members Al Unser, Jr. and Johnny Unser. “I’m honored to be flanked this year by two of IndyCar’s iconic women drivers. Lyn and Sarah have worked hard, opened doors and left an indelible mark on racing history – and I look a lot better seated next them than I do next to Johnny and Al Jr.”

The Indianapolis Airport Authority will present Unser with a commemorative runway light to honor the 50th anniversary of his first Indy 500 win.

After the panel discussion, Lyn St. James will sign copies of her book, “An Incredible Journey,” which chronicles her last Indy 500 and looks back on her record-breaking runs at Talladega and Daytona, terrifying crashes, and the joys of mentoring young women drivers.

The IND-y Icons Panel discussion is part of the Indy airport’s month-long flurry of activities to welcome race fans, and honor the greatest spectacle in racing.

“Race-day weekend is our busiest air travel time here at the Indianapolis airport, and it’s a perfect opportunity to connect race fans with each other, and the icons that make the Indy 500 the thrilling spectacle that is known in every corner of the world,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority.
