Indy Airport Executive Elected Chair of Indiana Latino Institute Board

Airport leadership example extending beyond airport, into community

INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 29, 2018) – The Indiana Latino Institute Board has named Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez as the board’s new chair. Rodriguez, who was also recognized in 2016 and 2017 for his leadership in the Indianapolis and Latino communities, will serve as board chair for a two-year term.

“I’m honored to accept a greater leadership role within this organization,” said Rodriguez. “The work the board and the organization have accomplished over the last year will only continue in the future.”

Rodriguez joined the Indiana Latino Institute Board of Directors in January 2017, serving as vice-chair.

Since his appointment to the Indianapolis International Airport in June 2014, Rodriguez continues to show his commitment to serving the community. In 2017, he was recognized by the Indy Chamber’s Hispanic Business Council for his commitment to the Indiana Latino community. In 2016, he was also recognized among the Men of Excellence, a list compiled by the Circle City Links organization that honors male leaders in Indianapolis who leverage community friendships, leadership and service to transform lives and make a noticeable difference in the Indy community.

ILI has been advocating for Latino Hoosiers since 2001, and is the only statewide organization of its kind working to improve health and advance education for the Indiana Latino community through statewide advocacy, research and culturally responsive programs.

“The Indy airport is a reflection of the community we serve, and that also reigns true in the airport leadership team’s involvement in the local community,” said Rodriguez. “Our time and resources help to build public value even outside our terminal walls and runways.”

In addition to Rodriguez, ILI’s board officers for 2018 include Vice-Chair Rafael Sanchez, President and CEO of Indianapolis Power & Light, Secretary Dr. Virginia Caine, Director of the Marion County Public Health Department and Treasurer Oscar Gutierrez, Senior Director of Facility Strategy and Financing of The Mind Trust.
