Indy Airport, 12 Others Across the Nation to Host Virtual Music Festival
National JetStream Summer Fest will feature Indy’s own Bashiri Asad
INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 14, 2020) – The Indianapolis International Airport (IND) will join 12 airports from across the country to host the virtual JetStream Summer Fest on Aug. 19, where local singer-songwriter Bashiri Asad will exemplify the rich talents of the Indianapolis music scene.
This online celebration will showcase local talent from each airport’s city, and Asad will bring his blend of jazz, soul, and funk known as IndySoul to the festival. Asad’s performance can be streamed via Facebook Live at 7:25 p.m. – 7:40 p.m. EST via the JetStream Summer Fest Facebook event page. Additional festival artists from across the country will performance from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. EST, also via Facebook Live.
“IND has a longstanding commitment to supporting the arts community and enhancing our terminal experience through collaborations with local visual and performing artists,” said Mario Rodriguez, Indianapolis Airport Authority executive director. “Much like the air travel industry, our arts communities are hurting right now due to COVID-19, and we appreciate this opportunity to lift up their voices and support their work.”
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport organized the festival, and the lineup will feature various musicians highlighting each city’s unique music culture. A full list of artists is available on the JetStream Summer Fest event page.
The roster of participating airports includes: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Lehigh Valley International Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, El Paso International Airport, Evansville Regional Airport, Long Beach Airport, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Santa Barbara Airport, John Wayne Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The Indianapolis Airport Authority’s support of art and culture is exhibited throughout the terminal at IND. Permanent and temporary art collections are displayed in both public and post-security areas, with many of the collections created by artists or poets who live in Indiana or have ties to the Hoosier state. The IAA also works in partnership with the Arts Council of Indianapolis to display works by Central Indiana artists on a quarterly basis.
