Inaugural Daily Flight to Oakland Launches Today Out of Indy
New year-round Southwest flight expands Indy connection to the West Coast
INDIANAPOLIS (JULY 15, 2018) – Southwest Airlines launches its new, year-round nonstop flight to Oakland, Cal., today out of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND), further expanding Indy’s connection with West Coast leisure travel and business interests.
The outbound flight will depart Indianapolis at 8:10 a.m. today, and the inbound flight will arrive in Indianapolis at 10:45 a.m. The flight will leave out of Indianapolis daily.
Today’s inaugural departure expands the list of West Coast destinations that have been added to the Indy airport’s roster over the past year. Travelers leaving out of Indy can fly year-round nonstop into Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and now Oakland – with some destinations leaving daily, and some multiple times per day.
“Southwest, particularly, has made considerable investment in Indy,” said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “In addition to today’s flight, Southwest launched its first international flight out of Indy to Cancun last year, has increased flights by 70 percent over the past four years, and makes up 34 percent of passenger travel out of Indianapolis annually.”
Of the total 51 nonstop flights available out of the Indy airport, Southwest offers 21 of those flights – the most of any airline.
In addition to today’s Southwest flight, five inaugural flights have launched out of Indy in 2018 to Sarasota, Charleston, Phoenix-Mesa and Paris-Charles de Gaulle. The Indy airport’s airline partners have also increased flights in 2018 to Austin, Cancun, Las Vegas, Newark, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Tampa.
Today the Indianapolis airport averages 145 daily flights.
