Frontier Launches Inaugural Flight from Indy to San Diego

Flight is first year-round, nonstop flight to long-time unserved destination

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 13, 2018) – Hoosiers looking to head to the southern-most part of California will have two options available out of the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) starting today, as Frontier Airlines launches its inaugural nonstop, year-round flight to San Diego.

Frontier Airlines announced its new year-round flight in June, increasing the airline’s nonstop reach out of Indy to eight destinations.

Service from Indianapolis to San Diego got its first break when Southwest Airlines launched a seasonal, nonstop flight into San Diego last summer. San Diego is not only a popular sunny leisure destination and access point to Southern California, but a technology and life sciences mecca.

“What makes the Frontier flight exciting news is the fact it’s the first nonstop, year-round flight into San Diego -- which was a destination that was unserved for years, and has remained underserved until now,” said Mario Rodriguez, Indianapolis Airport Authority executive director.

Rodriguez said Frontier’s new flight adds to the growing number of nonstop routes into the West Coast, pointing out that Southwest Airlines also launched its inaugural flight to Oakland, California last month. Today, travelers can find nonstop flights out of Indianapolis to Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.

The new Frontier flight will run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

Frontier offers nonstop out of Indy to Austin, Denver, Las Vegas, Orlando, Philadelphia, Fort Myers, Tampa – and now San Diego.
